Racing is back and gosh am I happy about it!

I had a great break in the off-season, but it honestly felt like one of the longest that I can remember. I think I spent so much of 2020 and 2021 planning, avoiding border closures and completing the required quarantine that it was constant GO all the time. But it was positive - we were able to stay on the road, we could continue racing and make sure that Supercars came to your loungerooms with some quality racing.

For me, 2021 was a busy one on and off the track. I had a great time racing in Porsche Australia Carrera Cup with Wall Racing, I returned as a Co-Driver with Jamie Whincup at the Red Bull Ampol Racing Team for the Bathurst 1000 (my favourite race) and off track continued my TV commentary duties.

So into 2022. Last weekend we were back at the track for the Sydney Motorsport Park SuperNight. Although I did have to have a laugh, after spending four rounds straight at SMP to get the 2021 Supercars season over the line, it felt like Groundhog Day being back there for the first round.

It going to be an action packed year for Supercars. I’m excited to see how the new Management direct the sport and it’s good to hear that entertainment on and off track is a priority. On the racing side, there are new driver and Team combinations and fans back at the trackside. No amount of rain was going to dampen their spirits last weekend.

Add to that returning to Western Australia for the Perth SuperNight, the Gold Coast 500 back on the calendar which is always a great event and hopefully heading to New Zealand for the Pukekohe round. There’s a lot to look forward to.

The racing at SMP last weekend in the rain didn’t disappoint. It was good to see new names in the mix across the shootout, pole position and podiums. Broc Feeney in both top 10 Shootouts in his first main game outing. Likewise, seeing Brodie Kostecki take his first pole position, Anton De Pasquale continuing his strong showing, Chaz Mostert leading the Championship for the first time in his career… I could go on, but if this is form guide for the 2022 season it’s shaping up to be one of the best.

Lastly, I was want to send my thoughts and prayers to those affected by the floods. We have many friends on the east coast including in the Typrepower family. Sending my best, stay safe and it’s a reminder to all look after each other.

All the best,

Craig
